The Internet is a great tool, with so much information available. We more and more rely on what we can find in the search engines as oppose to asking a question by phone or browsing through books. But it is all about knowing where to FIND it…
So - how do I find a phone number? Or: where can I find out who a certain (mobile, unlisted) number belongs to?
Well, in Canada I usually go to 411.ca. It both has phone search and reverse number lookup.
But the US is so much bigger than Canada. And several tools are spread over all the web. Is there a site that allows you to find it all? [click to continue…]

When you are writing articles, blog posts or emails in a language different from English you will likely encounter the challenge of special characters. Being Dutch I have typed my share of é, ë or ï characters. Now I know where they are on my keyboard, so I don’t have to search them in a special symbols list. But every now and then I need a new one, or I have forgotten how to put a certain special foreign character onto “paper”.
So, I thought it would be handy to create a table with foreign characters for my own reference; first the Uppercase Special Characters and then the Lowercase Special Characters. Hope you like this list too - bookmark it! [click to continue…]

Pets - don’t you love ‘em? Yehes, but… When they are ripping my chairs apart with sharp claws, or barking loudly they are not my favourite. And how about peeing outside the designated area? Dogs and cat urine can ruin many a pillow, carpet, upholstery or fabric. What to do?
Whatever you do: do it well. You will not only have to clean, but also deodorize the area (remove smells). Because even when we cannot small any odor anymore, animals can - and they will likely (re)mark the spot!

Software and Computers and wonderful. That is, if they work. Unfortunately a lot of the stuff stops working after a while. For whatever reason. Today I am having a problem with WordPress - again. Somewhere in the back of my mind it lingers - haven’t I seen this type of problem before? I get an error message when I try to upload an image in WordPress. I am using WordPress 2.5 at the moment, but have seen many image upload errors mentioned all over the web for various WordPress versions. How to solve these upload problems? [click to continue…]

When I wrote about keyboard shotcuts for special French characters, I thought I’d spend some time on researching other ALT key codes as well.
A number of them I already knew; as a Dutchie I am using some ALT codes quite a lot, for special characters like ë (ALT+137), ï (ALT+139) and of course the almighty Euro sign € (ALT+0128).
