If you do not know where to start, and do not have a lot of money to spend, it is obvious that you should start with the free tools. Something you may have stumbled upon when you are a Pay-Per-Click advertiser are the free keyword search tools that Google AdWords, Yahoo and MSN provide.
Competitive Analysis: Free PPC Keyword Search Tool
If you want to find out more about the companies that you are bidding against, then maybe you should consider the free PPC Web Spy software. This Mozilla Firefox plugin will show you which phrases your competition is bidding on. If you do not have this Mozilla browser yet you can download the latest version of Firefox here.
More interesting links include:

- Wordtracker – the research tool of professionals
- Micro Niche Power – A very intuitive tool that builds on Google AdWords data. Very flexible!

I won’t recommend programs very often except this new service is fantastic. It is a keyword tool with a database of millions of keywords showing the adwords traffic count monthly along with the google competition count as well as other figures.
At a click of a button you will discover phrases with traffic but no competition and I have used it already to get web pages and sites to the top of the search engines, even with no backlinks.
